Welcome to The Man Shortage!
I’m here to promote healthy discussion about the well-documented shortage of black men eligible for marriage. From Oprah to Nightline the statistics have been discussed, disputed, cried over and confirmed. Is it myth or fact? Perception or reality? Overlooked by the statistics are African-American couples, and black men and black women who are cultivating happy marriages and relationships. The challenge remains, however, for single African-American women and American women of all races and nationalities. They are becoming more educated and independently affluent - what do these women need to do to find love, compatibility and commitment within a partnership?
I am the author of Shades of Retribution, a novel that examines the trials and strategies a group of women employ to secure love and relationships for themselves. I wrote this book with a great deal of passion about relationships between black men and women, and with a willingness to examine openly how individuals form ideas about race, social status, values and inject them into their choices. As African-Americans continue to both grow and remain stagnant in many areas of life post-slavery, I hope that we can continue to develop a sense of our unique place in the world and expand upon it through the relationships we share amongst ourselves and with others.
